Deep Fried Quails Eggs in Beer Batter
I love this easy and tasty appetiser or starter. You will find kwek-kwek in the streets of Philippines and usually coloured orange from annato powder or food colouring. Sometimes it is sold next to Tokneneng which the same but with boiled chicken eggs.

How To Make Kwek-kwekPrint Recipe
- 12 -24 Quails eggs, boiled & peeled
- 100g cornflour
- 200g plain flour
- 2tsp fine sea salt
- 1tsp ground black pepper
- 2tbsp vinegar
- 300 real ale or beer
- 1ltr cooking oil
To make the batter mix corn flour, plain flour, salt and pepper in medium bowl.
Add vinegar and beer.
Mix until all of the ingredients are incorporated making sure there are no big lumps in the mixture.
Add boiled quails egg into the mixture, covering it completely.
Heat up the oil in a frying pan or a small pot on high heat. Once it hot turn it down to medium heat.
Using a spoon, scoop the egg one at a time from the mixture and tipping it into the hot oil.
Cook it until golden brown. Repeat until all of the eggs are cooked.
